January 2025 Baseline monthly digest  |  Articles  |  web.dev

Published: Jan 30, 2025

With 2025 in full swing, web developers are back at work on new projects and collaborating with the community. Here in Chrome Developer Relations, we’re paying attention to what developers are talking about, and how the state of the web and the tools used to build it are evolving—and Baseline is part of that whole mix!

This digest is the first in a monthly series where we sum up what’s going on with Baseline. This could be conference talks about Baseline, Baseline-related tooling, Baseline features, and anything else from us or that we manage to find in the wild.

Baseline 2024 wrap-up

2024 was a big year for Baseline. Many features reached Baseline Newly available status in that time, a new web platform status dashboard was launched—and that’s just for starters. To read more about Baseline in 2024, check out the Baseline wrap-up post that was just recently published.

Promise.try is now Baseline Newly available

Only one feature has reached Baseline Newly available so far in 2025, meaning that it has recently landed across all major modern browser engines—and that feature is Promise.try. Promise.try is a method you can use with Promises that can handle exceptions with the callbacks you pass to it, whether those callbacks are synchronous or asynchronous. For more information, read the Baseline Newly available post for Promise.try, as well as the MDN documentation for it.

RUMvision announces Baseline integration

RUMvision is a Real User Monitoring (RUM) product that helps web developers to gather data about users in the field, including important user experience signals such as the Core Web Vitals.

Recently, RUMvision recently announced that Baseline will be integrated into their solution, giving developers unique insight into the features that are supported by the browsers real users depend on to use the web.

Additionally, RUMvision also announced that they’ll be using the Baseline status widget across their website to indicate the Baseline status of features mentioned. If you think the Baseline status widget would be useful on your website, it’s available for you to use!

Web Platform Status Dashboard now groups Baseline features by year

Last year, the Web Platform Status Dashboard was launched, and it’s a useful tool for developers to get a quick look at which web platform features are Baseline. This dashboard now has bookmarks in its menu that group Baseline features by year, going all the way back to 2020. Give it a look and you might find yourself surprised at the features you can use in all browsers today—and for how long!

We also curate Baseline features by year on web.dev. You can now browse those features for 2023, 2023, and 2025. As 2025 goes on, you can expect to see both the Web Platform Status Dashboard and the Baseline 2025 page on web.dev to be updates.

Web features you can (really) use today

The goal of Baseline is to make it clear which features you can use reliably across browsers today. Pete LePage—a Developer Advocate for Google Chrome—ventured to Connect.Tech 2024 to give a talk about Baseline.

In this talk, Pete LePage gets the audience up to speed on Baseline, the problem it aims to solve, and a whole bunch of useful features that are available to use across all browsers right now. Give Pete’s talk a watch—and if you’re the type who prefers slides over video, you can take a look at those, too!

That’s all for now

That’s all for the happenings with Baseline in January 2025. Every month—if there are new things to share in the world of Baseline—you can expect to see another digest like this one right here on web.dev. If we missed anything in this edition, let us know and we’ll see if we can include it in the next Baseline monthly digest!
